Casa d'Areny-Plandolit Museum
Seigneurial house museum in Ordino preserving the furnished rooms of the Areny-Plandolit family.
The house on Ordino's Carrer Major grew from a seventeenth-century core, with a lintel dated 1613, into the mansion that the Areny-Plandolit family rebuilt in the middle of the nineteenth century. Its best known member was Guillem d'Areny-Plandolit, first Baron of Senaller and Gramenet, who led the reform of Andorran institutions in 1866. The family occupied the property until the 1950s; the General Council bought it in 1972 and opened it as a museum in 1986 after a long programme of restoration.
Visitors move through rooms furnished much as the family left them, among them the dining room, the music room, the library, the private chapel and the wine cellar. Alongside the furniture and portraits are the collections the family assembled: photographic equipment and a darkroom, taxidermy specimens, and a dentist's surgery. A hologram presentation, The Dream of Don Guillem, sets the baron's life against Andorra in the late nineteenth century. A terraced garden runs behind the house.
