DomQuartier Salzburg
Circuit through the Residenz state rooms, cathedral arches and abbey museum on one ticket.
The DomQuartier opened in 2014 and reconnected buildings that had been linked when Salzburg was ruled by prince-archbishops. A single route leads from the state rooms of the Residenz across the organ gallery of the cathedral, round the arcaded terraces above the nave and on into the museum of St Peter's Abbey, so visitors walk the private way the archbishop once took between palace, church and monastery. The circuit covers about 2,000 square metres of rooms.
The state rooms were decorated in the early eighteenth century with ceiling paintings by Johann Michael Rottmayr and Martino Altomonte and stucco by Alberto Camesina. The cathedral museum, founded in 1974, holds the archbishops' art and curiosity cabinet, goldsmiths' work and vestments, while the abbey museum shows manuscripts and paintings from one of the oldest monasteries north of the Alps. Windows and terraces along the way give views over Residenzplatz and Domplatz.
