Druskininkai City Museum
Spa-town museum in the former Villa Linksma, with displays on Druskininkai's resort history.
The Druskininkai City Museum opened in 1999 in Villa Linksma, a neoclassical wooden and masonry summer house built at the start of the twentieth century for the Kiersnovskis family. The villa stands on the main street of the spa town, a short walk from the lakes and the mineral-water springs that made Druskininkai a resort in the nineteenth century. Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis, who grew up in the town, is recorded as visiting the house to give piano lessons to the family's daughters.
The collections document the resort's growth: postcards and photographs of the spa, labelled mineral-water bottles and souvenirs, treatment equipment, and the everyday objects of visitors and residents. The museum also keeps works by Lithuanian artists of the diaspora and paintings made at the plein-air sessions held during the annual Ciurlionis Days. The villa's rooms and its terrace are used for concerts, temporary exhibitions and other events through the year.
