Zaryadye Concert Hall
Concert hall of 2018 set into a hill in Zaryadye Park, under a glass canopy near the Kremlin.
The hall opened in 2018 as part of Zaryadye Park, built on the site cleared for the never-completed eighth Stalin high-rise and later occupied by the Rossiya Hotel. It is set into an artificial hill beside the Moskva River and sheltered by a glazed canopy, the so-called glass bark, a translucent structure with no enclosing walls that lets daylight into the foyers. The building runs to six levels, four above ground and two below, among the churches of the Patriarch's Court on Varvarka.
There are three performance spaces: the Great Hall, whose vineyard-style seating and acoustics were shaped with the Japanese acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota; the Small Hall for chamber music; and the New Concert Space, opened on the second-floor foyer in 2019 with a view of the Floating Bridge. The Great Hall's concert organ has 85 stops and 5,872 pipes and weighs about 40 tonnes; its inauguration in 2020 ran for 24 hours. The hall stages more than 500 events a year across classical, jazz, folk and staged repertoire.
