Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall
Zagreb's main concert hall, opened in 1973 and home to the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall opened on 29 December 1973, after a competition won by the architects Marijan Haberle, Minka Jurković and Tanja Zdvořák. It stands on Trg Stjepana Radića south of the railway, a low modernist block of glass, marble and travertine whose foyers wrap around the auditoria. The building is named after Vatroslav Lisinski, the composer of Love and Malice, generally regarded as the first Croatian opera.
The complex contains a large hall seating around 1,800 and a small hall of roughly 300 seats, together with foyer spaces used for receptions, fairs and congresses. It is the principal home of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and hosts the Zagreb Soloists, the Zagreb Quartet and visiting orchestras, alongside jazz, world music, folklore and popular concerts. Its own subscription series include Saturday at Lisinski, Lisinski da camera and the Wednesdays at Lisinski cycle.
