Tampere Hall
Concert and congress centre by Sorsapuisto park, home of the Tampere Philharmonic and the Moomin Museum.
Tampere Hall opened in 1990 on the edge of Sorsapuisto park, the result of an architectural competition won by Sakari Aartelo and Esa Piironen. The white building steps down towards the park behind a long glazed foyer, and its roof profile follows the rake of the auditoriums inside. The Main Auditorium seats about 1,750 and was designed with a wide stage able to hold a full symphony orchestra and chorus, making it one of the largest concert halls in the Nordic countries.
The hall is the home of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and also takes touring opera, ballet, popular music, comedy and congresses; a smaller auditorium and several studios handle chamber concerts and conferences. Since 2017 the lower floor has housed the Moomin Museum, which holds Tove Jansson's original illustrations and the tall Moominhouse model. Restaurants, a shop and exhibition spaces occupy the foyers, which are open to the public on event days.
