The Bridgewater Hall
Manchester’s international concert hall, home of the Hallé.
The Bridgewater Hall is Manchester's international concert hall, opened in September 1996 on a site beside a specially built arm of the Rochdale Canal. It was the result of a design competition won by the architects Renton Howard Wood Levin, and it replaced the Free Trade Hall as the city's main venue for orchestral music.
The hall is home to the Hallé and hosts regular seasons by the BBC Philharmonic and the Manchester Camerata, alongside rock, pop, jazz and comedy. Its auditorium sits on spring bearings to isolate it from outside noise and vibration, and it houses a large Marcussen concert organ.
