Symphony Hall
An acoustically celebrated concert hall, home of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Symphony Hall opened in 1991 as part of Birmingham's International Convention Centre development and was formally inaugurated in June that year. Built for around £30 million, its shoebox-shaped auditorium of about 2,260 seats took inspiration from Vienna's Musikverein and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, and it is run today by the charity B:Music alongside Birmingham Town Hall.
The hall is home to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and is widely praised for its acoustics, which can be tuned using adjustable reverberation chambers and a movable canopy. It hosts a busy programme of classical, rock, pop, comedy and family events, and houses a large Klais symphony organ installed in 2001.
