Belarusian State Academic Musical Theatre
Minsk company playing operetta, musicals and dance works in a purpose-built house on Myasnikova Street.
The company was founded in 1970 as the State Theatre of Musical Comedy of the Byelorussian SSR and gave its first performances in temporary quarters before moving in 1981 into a purpose-built house on Myasnikova Street, close to the Nyamiha quarter. The theatre took its present name in 2000 and was granted academic status in 2009. Its auditorium seats around a thousand, with an orchestra pit, and the foyer spaces are used for small-scale recitals.
The repertoire is broad: Viennese and Hungarian operetta, Soviet and Russian musical comedy, Western musicals, ballets and dance shows, and new works by Belarusian composers, among them Vladimir Kondrusevich's Blue Cameo and Sofia Golovnya. Productions for children are given on weekend mornings. The theatre carries a resident orchestra, chorus and ballet troupe, tours widely within Belarus and hosts guest companies from neighbouring countries.
