The MAC
Contemporary art and theatre in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter.
The MAC (Metropolitan Arts Centre) is a contemporary arts venue in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter, facing St Anne's Cathedral across St Anne's Square. Opened in April 2012, it combines free visual art galleries with theatres and studio spaces, presenting exhibitions, drama, dance, family workshops and experimental work year-round.
The building was designed by Belfast practice Hackett Hall McKnight on an awkward, roughly trapezium-shaped plot. It is made up of interlocking brick volumes and a basalt tower crowned by glazing, with the letters MAC set into its brickwork; it was completed in February 2012.
