Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection
Contemporary art inside a restored domed exchange, remodelled by Tadao Ando.
The Bourse de Commerce is a circular landmark in the heart of Paris, near Les Halles. Its history goes back to the 18th-century grain exchange (Halle au blé), whose round form survives; the building was rebuilt as a commodities exchange in the late 19th century, keeping its great glass-and-iron dome and a painted panorama of world trade running around the rotunda.
Since 2021 it has housed the Pinault Collection, François Pinault's holdings of contemporary art. Japanese architect Tadao Ando inserted a smooth concrete cylinder inside the historic rotunda, creating a new exhibition ring beneath the dome, while the restored galleries, passages and machine room host rotating shows, installations, concerts and talks.
