Norval Foundation
Museum of twentieth-century and contemporary art from South Africa and beyond, in a low white building beside a wetland bird sanctuary in Steenberg.
The Norval Foundation is a centre for art and cultural expression in Steenberg, on the edge of Table Mountain National Park outside Cape Town. It opened in April 2018, founded by the Norval family, and shows twentieth-century and contemporary art from South Africa and the wider continent.
The building, designed by dhk Architects, sits beside a restored wetland and bird sanctuary, with a sculpture garden, galleries, a research library, a restaurant and an amphitheatre used for concerts and talks. Its exhibitions have included major presentations of Edoardo Villa, Sidney Kumalo, Alexis Preller and Irma Stern.
