TAK Theater Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein's principal theatre, presenting drama, dance, jazz and cabaret beside Schaan's parish church.
The building beside the church of St Laurentius in Schaan went up in 1913 and 1914 as a hall for the parish youth association, which staged amateur plays there. The municipality bought the ageing property in 1968 and refurbished it, and in the winter of 1969 to 1970 the emerging Liechtenstein theatre scene renamed it the Theater am Kirchplatz. Alois Büchel formally founded the company on 8 January 1970 and directed it until 1992; it now works under the name TAK Theater Liechtenstein.
The TAK is the country's leading stage and a fixture of the cultural region spanning Liechtenstein, Vorarlberg and eastern Switzerland. Its season mixes its own productions and co-productions with guest companies from the German-speaking countries and further afield, covering spoken drama, contemporary circus, dance, literature evenings, jazz and classical concerts and cabaret. A separate strand of work is made for children and young audiences. Larger concerts and shows are also staged at the SAL hall in Schaan and the Vaduzer Saal.
