Wales Millennium Centre
Wales’s national arts centre, with its landmark bronze-and-slate façade.
Wales Millennium Centre is the national arts centre of Wales, a landmark on the Cardiff Bay waterfront that opened in November 2004. Jonathan Adams' design wraps the building in bands of Welsh slate in purple, green, blue and grey beneath a bronze-coloured steel shell, whose front carries a huge inscription by poet Gwyneth Lewis in Welsh and English, with letters cut as windows.
Inside, the 1,900-seat Donald Gordon Theatre hosts touring West End musicals, opera from resident company Welsh National Opera and dance, while smaller spaces including the Weston Studio, BBC Hoddinott Hall and the Cabaret venue offer more intimate work. The centre also produces its own shows and runs the Llais international festival of voice.
